Week 3: Truth

Main Text: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-3

Please Use the questions from the STUDY GUIDE for this sermon series as the starting point for discussions.

Additional Discussion Questions

1.) “Truth is often inconvenient but is always indispensible.” How is the truth inconvenient?

“You must be addicted to truth.” How well do you receive criticism?

2.) How can we create an environment for those around us where criticism is welcomed, encouraged, thanked and rewarded?  Up/Down principle; In/Out principle

In what spheres of our lives is this important? Spouse, Children, Family, Work, Church Community, Friendships

3.) "It is possible to weaponize truth.” Discuss the difference between pure motives and impure motives in using truth. Also discuss the consequences of “weaponizing” truth.

4.) What is the effect of speaking and receiving truth? Spiritual growth, spiritual maturity and transformation into the image of Christ. See Ephesians 4:15 – “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”

REFLECT on this– Note Ephesians 4:15. How does Paul suggest we speak truth? In love. It is not sufficient to merely speak truth, it must be done in love. God is concerned with our heart and not simply our words and actions – He is focused on the heart behind those words and actions. Love, as an outpouring of the Holy Spirit within us, should be the force behind our speaking truth to others.

Don't forget to post your attendance after group.
