Communications Director

We are currently searching for a full-time Communications Director who will aid us in effectively directing the church's overall strategic plan for internal and external communications.  This position is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all marketing strategies, church-wide communications, and media strategies. The Communications Director informs people in our area about the events at West Pines through marketing and invites the people at West Pines into a deeper relationship with Jesus through the promotion and communication of the events and ministry opportunities at the church. This full-time position reports directly to the Ministries Pastor.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Recruit and develop volunteers on the Communications Team to use their God-given skills and talents to connect people with Jesus’s message and West Pines’ ministries.

  • Work with our team of ministries to create communication pieces, campaigns, series and marketing opportunities to engage the church in all areas of ministry.

  • Provide consistency in the branding and messaging of all communications pieces.

  • Oversee the design and implementation of all communications pieces, including video, graphics, social media, print pieces, church-wide emails and advertisements.

  • Lead the editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all organizational publications.

  • Ensure that West Pines regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinate and oversee this activity. Monitor trends.

  • Speak into the creative process for sermon series, stage designs and facility designs.

  • Leads projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A personal love for Jesus Christ and His Church.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or equivalent work experience.

  • At least 2 years experience leading a team of communications/marketing professionals.

  • Excellent communicator (both written and verbal) and creative thinker with the ability to use data to inform strategy.

  • An ability to manage the different "seasons" of the church, to lean in to work when periods are particularly busy and lean into family and other responsibilities during the rest of the year.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in marketing automation software (preferably Hootsuite).

  • Intermediate knowledge of online advertising platforms, particularty Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

  • Keen understanding of modern branding techniques.

  • Demonstrates understanding of communications to a Christian church community.

  • Ability to proofread content and check for both theological and grammatical errors as needed.

  • A passion for engaging the church through video, graphics and marketing campaigns.

  • Teachability and hunger to learn.

  • Leadership mindset.

  • Experience managing marketing campaigns.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising a staff team and volunteers.

  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.

  • Understanding of and willingness to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church.
